GARNA trip to view Monte Vista Sandhill Cranes
Saturday, March 15, 2025 (5:30 AM - 1:00 PM) (MDT)
Description
Every March, more than 20,000 sandhill cranes stop at the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge during their migration north. This incredible natural spectacle takes place just 90 minutes from Salida, so we are going to check it out!
We will load up a GARNA van at 5:30 am on Saturday, March 15 and head down in time to witness the breathtaking morning flight from 7-9am. We'll stop at a few choice viewing spots and make a group decision on when to head home, but we'll be back in Salida by 1:00 at the latest.
To reserve your spot in the van, cost is $12.00 for GARNA members and $15.00 for non-members to help cover gas. Space is limited and advance registration is required.
GARNA's community and youth programs empower people with the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to connect with and care for the environment. We focus on building relationships - with ourselves, with each other, and with the land - through meaningful experiences and shared learning. By combining empowerment with connections, we help foster a deep sense of responsibility that goes beyond our programs, inspiring lifelong stewardship and active participation in protecting the ecosystems we all depend on.
