Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event.
Saturday, October 12. 9am-1pm
Chaffee County Fairgrounds. Free for Chaffee County Residents.
We're looking for 6-8 Volunteers to help with traffic control and assisting unloading items from vehicles into containers. Sign up to volunteer here: https://wkf.ms/3XXa3du
Household wastes (in household quantities) only:
- Accepted:
- Oils
- Antifreeze
- Solvents, Thinners
- Batteries
- Light Bulbs
- Fire Extinguishers
- Pesticides/Herbicides
- Paints
- Propane Cylinders (empty, with valves removed)
- Prohibited
- Explosives
- Ammunition
- Fire Alarms
- Radioactive Waste
- Commercial Waste
- Appliances/Electronic Waste
Professional staff from Clean Harbors Environmental will be conducting the event. Their team will help identify and categorize wastes for processing. If you're unsure whether something can be accepted for recycling or reclamation, they can assist you at the event.
The last local Household Hazardous Waste Recycling event in 2021 helped divert and recycle ~11 tons of hazardous wastes including >800 gallons of used motor oil, >100 gallons of used antifreeze, >300 pounds of light bulbs, 13 drums of pesticides/herbicides, and 8 pallets of used paints through partnership with Paint Care Colorado. These materials were processed for recycling/reclamation or incineration at the Clean Harbors facilities Nebraska and Arkansas.
